Abstract
Small cell lung cancer after diagnosed adenocarcinoma of the lung has been regarded as involving a different pathological pathway, but recent reports indicate that identical mutations such as epidermal growth factor receptor, tumor protein p53, or retinoblastoma protein 1 are found in both lesions. It leads to the prediction that adenocarcinoma may transform into the small cell lung cancer. The authors herein report cases of two patients with adenocarcinoma involving metachronous occurrence of small cell lung carcinoma along with a short review of related literatures focusing on diagnosis and treatment.
